چکیده

The muscle is thin and triangular in shape, situated at the upper part of thorax deep to pectoralis major and arises from the upper margin and outer surfaces of 3rd, 4th and 5th rib (frequently 2nd, 3rd and 4th) near the cartilage and the fascia covering intercostalis externus muscle. The fibres pass in the direction upwards and laterally and converge to form a flat tendon and inserted into medial border and upper surface of coracoid process of scapula. But, in the body mentioned here, the muscle in question is also flat and triangular, situated in a deeper plane than the pectoralis major, supplied by the usual nerves {i.e. medial and lateral pectoral nerves) as that of usual pectoralis minor, the origin of this muscle also corresponds to the description mentioned above (figure 1, plate XVII) but the abnormality is the peculiarity in the direction of its fibres and their mode of insertion. The fibres instead of being directed upwards and laterally pass downwards and laterally andcrossing the latissiinus dorsi at the post-fold of axilla get tendinous and placed on the medial side of the

Langer's arch: a rare anomaly affects axillary lymphadenectomy.

Langer's arch is the best-known anatomic variant of definite surgical implication in the region of the axilla. This rare anomaly is a muscular slip extending from the latissimus dorsi (LD) muscle to the tendons, muscles or fasciae around the superior part of the humerus. In this report, we present a rare case of left axillary arch. During modified radical mastectomy for breast cancer, we encoun...

Duplicated axillary arch muscles arising from the latissimus dorsi

Many origins and insertions of an axillary muscular slip (also known as Langer's or axillary arch muscles) have been documented previously. In this report, we found duplicated axillary arch muscles (two variant muscular slips) originating from the inferolateral border of the right side latissimus dorsi muscle. Obviously, these axillary arch muscles can be distinguished as short and long muscula...

Muscular Variations During Axillary Dissection: A Clinical Study in Fifty Patients

AIM The present study was conducted to detect the musculature variations during axillary dissection for breast cancer surgery. METHODS The anatomy of axilla regarding muscular variations was studied in 50 patients who had an axillary dissection for the staging and treatment of invasive primary breast cancer over one year. RESULTS In a period of one year, two patients (4%) with axillary arch...

An unusual case of axillary arch bridging across the anterior and posterior axillary folds in the distal part of axilla

Introduction Axillary arch is an additional muscle bundle of various dimensions extending from latissimus dorsi in the posterior fold of the axilla, to the pectoralis major in the anterior fold, to the short head of the biceps brachii or to the coracoid process [1, 2]. Ramsay, in 1795, described the axillary arch for the first time. He gave the description of a muscle bundle connecting pectoral...

A common insertion of thoracoepicondylaris and an axillary arch of Langer: a case report

An axillary arch is considered to be an variant muscle or tendinous slip that arises form the lower border of latissimus dorsi to join the tendon of pectoralis major, coracobrachalis, or fascia over the biceps. It is present in about 7% of the cases and may be multiple [1]. An axillary arch is thought to be a vestige of panniculus carnosus muscle [2]. Thoracoepicondylaris is a very rare muscula...
